* * * In October 2018 I was invited as Interfilk Guest to the Ohio Valley Filk Festival (OVFF) in Columbus, Ohio. Most of my concert has been posted on YouTube. * * * In September 2018 I won first place in poetry in the Silver Pen contest sponsored by Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services. Alas, I was on the train on my way to OVFF when the award ceremony was held, but I'm told it went well. The theme was "Joy" and my poem is called "Empyrean Joy." * * *
My
story "Strength, Wisdom, and Compassion" was published in Sword and
Sorceress 27, which came out in November 2012. The
anthology is available in trade paperback and for Kindle. The story is also printed in Mind
Bridges. * * * I've changed the contemporary story prompts, science fiction story prompts and fantasy story prompts. Try them out if you're stuck on a story idea, or if you just want to be amused, and let me know if you like the new ones better. * * * Most of my previously published stories are now available as ebooks through Callihoo Publishing. * * * I'm incredibly pleased to report that the first poem I ever submitted to a publisher, "Reflections: The Mirror Speaks," was purchased by Enchanted Conversation and is in the Snow White issue. * * *
* * * Publishers Weekly has this to say about Sword and Sorceress XXIV: "Waters ably continues the feminist anthology series founded by Bradley (1930-1999) to showcase short-form fantasy with a wide variety of heroic female characters. Of the 17 stories featured, standout selections include "A Curious Case" by Annclaire Livoti, a literary gem of a paranormal fantasy that pits a magic-practicing PI against a serial killer targeting succubae, and Julia H. West's "Soul Walls," which brilliantly fuses magic, art and Native American mysticism. A disorganized wizard and his unhappy wife are at the heart of the charming "Merlin's Clutter" by Helen E. Davis, and a princess solves the mystery of her father's murder through a magical tapestry in Brenta Blevins's "Material Witness." Though some of the selections are less than stellar, fantasy fans looking for original stories will find much to enjoy." (emphasis mine)
