Stargate SG-13
Information about P6Y-691 (Uruk)

Physical: As with most Goa-uld-occupied worlds the SGC has encountered, the planet has a gravity, atmosphere, and biosphere similar to Earth's. One difference is that Uruk has a 28-1/2 (Earth) hour day.

Inhabitants: The inhabitants seem to be descended from Earth humans; it is theorized they may have been brought to the planet as long ago as 3100 B.C.E. Every human the party has encountered has looked young, extremely handsome or beautiful, and with no physical deformities. Even the people in the tiny villages are much cleaner, better fed, and more physically perfect than expected. They are all dark-haired and somewhat dark in skin tone. No trace of naquadah or nanites have been found in their cells. The mining is done by 'chosen,' who although beautiful, young, and healthy appear to have little intelligence. Their activities are supervised by priests and priestesses of Ba'al. No one but the 'chosen' are allowed to touch the rock which is mined. Ba'al took a number of the 'chosen' with him when he left the planet through the Stargate, and writings found in the ziggurat state that those who are pure enough will be taken to live with the gods.

There are Jaffa stationed in the mine; these are the usual mix of human races, and all bear the forehead mark of Ba'al. At least one Goa'uld has been sighted on the planet. Ba'al visited the planet while the SG team was there.

Technology and architecture: Most of the inhabitants live at a simple farming or fishing level. The use of the wheel is known; there are small two-wheeled carts. Most of the houses in Great Uruk town are built of mud bricks and are similar in pattern to houses found in archaeological digs in Iraq (ancient Sumeria). The ziggurat, its outbuildings, major buildings in Great Uruk, and buildings near the mine are all built of what appears to be white marble, either from offworld (as suggested in some of the texts the archaeologist translated) or far from this site onworld. These buildings utilize Goa'uld technology, including transport rings, force fields, and bathroom facilities. The party has discovered that there are Goa'uld communication spheres in the ziggurat and at least one of the smaller outbuildings. There are transport rings linking the ziggurat and the main building near the mine. The mud brick buildings are built along a common Mesopotamian theme: central courtyard surrounded by rooms, with stairs to the roof of the building; much activity and most sleeping takes place on the roof.

Religion: The ziggurat, according to writings found in the back of one of its rooms and at the base of the stelae at the foot of the ziggurat's main stairs, was built by the goddess Inanna. She and her consort, Dumuzi, were major gods in ancient Sumeria in Mesopotamia (now Iraq) on Earth from about 3500 B.C.E. to 1750 B.C.E. (when she was known as Ishtar and her consort as Tammuz). At some point, fairly 'recently' (within the last 3000 years), Inanna and Dumuzi were supplanted on this planet by Ba'al, who was a later Mesopotamian god (2000 to 200 B.C.E.). It is assumed that Inanna and Dumuzi were Goa'uld (perhaps System Lords) who brought the local inhabitants to Uruk, and that Ba'al conquered them and took over Uruk. As is usual for Goa'uld System Lords, they set themselves up as gods. Although Ba'al is now the acknowledged god of Uruk, villagers who spoke with party members still attribute good crops and plentiful herds to Dumuzi, so the ancient beliefs have not died out.

Plants: The trees around the ziggurat plaza look like Earth deciduous (no botanists have studied them yet, so that's just a flash judgement). The inhabitants grow what look like variants of Earth barley and wheat in their fields.

Animals: Very few animals have been sighted. The inhabitants use animals about the size of small deer as draft animals and probably for meat and perhaps milk. There are birds in the forest; no one has bothered to look closely enough to see how close to Earth birds they are. The party has not yet run into any predators. Villagers along the Euphrates fish, but the party hasn't seen what passes for fish on Uruk yet.
