When Am Mor Salann Fasach became a Barony on December 30, A.S. XIII, Ferelith MacDonald became its Founding Baroness and Robert de Spencer was chosen to lead beside her as Baron.

When Ferelith completed her mundane degree at the University of Utah, she got a job teaching in Vernal, Utah, many miles to the north and east of Salt Lake City. Since she could not lead the Barony long distance, at the Dragon Friend Tourney in Caer Ben Dragon (Ogden, Utah), on August 9, A.S. XV, she gave up baronial leadership and Leah de Spencer became Baroness of Loch Salann.

However, as Founding Baroness, Ferelith will always keep the title Baroness Loch Salann.

During these early days of the barony, many of the traditions that carried on for many years began. The first major baronial award, the Crystal of the Salt Waste, was created. The premier was Jerilyn of Vert Silva, and it was given on 3 February A.S. XIII at the Court of Love revel.

The long-standing arts and service recognition awards for the barony came next. At the Games Revel on 16 June, A.S. XIV, Anne de Junius, Caryn von Katzenberg, Rhonwen y Llysieuydd, and Eireanne [ ] were inducted into the Laboring Artists Recognition Company, and the first LARCs chirped for the Barony. Leah de Spencer, Robert de Spencer, Gallowglass, Jerilyn of Vert Silva, and Katlin of Erynfel were inducted into the Devoted and Unique Company of Keepers, and our first DUCKs quacked for all to hear.

Meistres Rhonwen welcomes others who were there in the early days adding their reminiscences--after over 25 years, her memory is a bit faulty, and much information has disappeared in the fog. E-mail her at [email protected].
